[Future Technologies 25] (4) Regenerative Medicine: "It Will Completely Transform the Medical Paradigm"

[Kim Hyun-soo, CEO of Pamisell] “Regenerative medicine will become a mainstream treatment in the future; it will save lives and amaze the world.”

Kim Hyun-soo, CEO of Pamisell (005690), emphasized the changes that regenerative medicine will bring in the future. CEO Kim is a stem cell expert who serves as CEO of Pamcell—the developer of the world’s first stem cell therapy, “HatiCellGram-AMI”—and concurrently serves as the founding director of “Kim Hyun-soo Clinic,” a medical institution specializing in stem cell therapy.

He noted that while the purpose of medicine has traditionally been the treatment and prevention of disease, regenerative medicine has completely transformed this paradigm. This is because the goal of regenerative medicine is to replace damaged organs or tissues with new cells, which comes closest to the most fundamental solution medicine has long sought.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the global regenerative medicine market is expected to reach $30.9 billion by 2026, growing at a rapid annual average rate of 17.3%. In particular, the stem cell sector—which accounts for the largest share of this market—is projected to reach $19.5 billion. CEO Kim emphasized, “South Korea is a powerhouse in the field of regenerative medicine, having produced the world’s first stem cell therapy and currently holding the world’s largest number of such therapies—four in total.”

He stated, “As the government is implementing proactive support policies to secure a leading position in the market and pushing forward with related legislation, and as the pipelines of relevant companies are gradually expanding, the development of regenerative medicine-related drugs will become even more active,” adding, “Regenerative medicine will gradually replace conventional medicine.”
